Post subject: Famagusta and Kerynia are the two main places in Northern Cyprus, which is the Turkish side. Have friends who go to Kerynia regularly and thoroughly enjoy it. Not sure of any hotels though. Southern Cyprus is now expensive because they have the euro and exchange rate is rubbish. Protarus is cheaper than ayia napa though and is much more family orientated. I would recommend hiring a car and getting out and seeing more of the island. Nicosia is well worth a visit and if you take your passport you can walk into northen cyprus.

Post subject: Famagusta district lies over the the border. Part of Famagusta lies in the UN Buffer zone and no one lives there and that is the ghost town, famagusta in the turkish side is certainly not a ghost town and has some lovely places to visit, especially the ice cream and sweet parlour.
