Post subject: I had my baby everyone
I just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that I had my baby Henry on Good Friday the 21st March (6 days early) at 9.41pm and he weighed in at 8lbs 5oz.
I started having contractions at approx 4am on Good Friday morning and by 12pm they were fairly painful so I went to the hospital. Within the hour my waters broke naturally and I went down the labor suite. (According to the midwives labor doesn't start until you are 3cm dialted which I didn't know) Anyway I was on gas and air untill 6pm (I found it helpful to occaisionally use it when I wasn't having contractions so the relief was continuous even though your not supposed to) then they took it away from me as I was very sleepy but by then fully dialated. I have to say that up untill that point I found it very bareable. I then had to push for 2.5 hours and unfortunately had to be cut as Henry got stuck (but I didn't feel it at all). They also had to use the Ventose to help deliver him. For me the final 2.5 hours were the hardest and most painful as I had no pain relief. It most definately feels like trying to have a big poo and your body will involuntarily try to push with every contraction so adivce is, even if it hurts which it did for me because Henry was back to back, go with the push and push with all your might, but ONLY when your having a contraction, I didn't scream as that will use up more energy than pushing, just concerntrate and push. When he came out I can tell you it's the biggest sense of relief and pleasure at seeing him and you will be very pleased with yourselves. When the placenta came out there is a further sense of relief and you feel so much lighter...lol.
I don't know if that helps anyone but if you want to ask anything I'd be happy to answer with my experience.
Of the whole experience in hospital I have to say that apart from the final part of labor (which doesn't last long) the only other thing I found hard was the breastfeeding. The midwives at my hospital were extremely contradictory, the milk doesn't come for 3 days and so if you are breastfeeding this is the hardest time as they wont get much untill then, all it will be is colostrum (I had hardly any) so we had to give Henry some formula aswell as put him on the breast untill my milk came in. When that happened I had flu symptoms and felt quite rough (this is apparantly normal). My breasts were very sore for atleast 5 or 6 days, get Avent nipple cream and apply regularly and put a cold wet flannel on your breasts as it helps. I was even advised by the midwife to put a washed savoy cabbage leaf on each breast, which I did...lol! Breastfeeding uses up an extra 500 cals a day and can make you very tired during each feed so for the first week I snacked and ate some chocolate and other naughty things. Stick with your usual healthy diet aswell
I've waffled enough anyway, I wanted to thank everyone on here as you were all very helpful during my pregnancy. All the best to you all

Hi Booter, so nice to see your story - i was wondering what had happened to you!! Big big big congratulations!! I had my little girl on the 22nd , Kaitlin Maria, I knew you were going to beat me to it LOL!!!
My waters broke at 3am, and we went into hospital, but wasnt dialated at all, so at 9am, they gave me the induction gel, within minutes I started to get pains, which i thought were contractions, but i was assured were not, anyway, was left until 2pm, on my own in the ward (they wouldnt let me partner back in until 2pm because it wasnt visiting hours!! I know, what a joke). I wasnt allowed any pain relief, because i wasnt in labour, and I have to say, these first few hours of pain were the worst out of the entire labour, they were coming every minute, anyway, at 3pm they examined me, and i was 3cm, i went to the delivery suite. I started pushing at around 6pm, and my beautiful girl was born at 7.42pm.
I had gas and air, and pethidene (which i didnt think worked at all, but maybe the pains were just getting worse LOL!). I had some stitches too, which are now healing.
Hope you are well Booter, keep me posted on your little ones development xxx

Thank you all so much for the replies. It's great to hear from you all, particularly Flossie, Gingin and Petralou. Well done and congratulations to you Petralou, I'm really pleased for you and I hope Katlin is well. Funny how we were within a day of eachother.
I've got my hands full with this little bundle so I don't get many opportunities to come on the internet but will try and come on soon.
I hope all your pregnancies are going well ladies xxx
