Post subject: SMP and returning to work Hi,
My SMP runs out next month and i am not due back to work till June, but due to finances im going to have to go bac to work next month. My question is i HATE my job and have been in the same kind of work for 12 yrs. I want to try something new, but not sure how about leaving my current job and how this would affect my SMP. Once my SMP runs out, do i legally have to go back to work or could i hand in my notice in the standard way? Worried if i hand in my notice i would have to pay back ALL my SMP? Also how many hours do i have to work to qualify for help with childcare costs? Posted: Tue Mar 22, 2011 8:50 pm
Post subject: you won't need to pay back SMP but you might need to pay back anything your work gave you in addtion - it depends on your contract and notice period etc. Instead of help with childcare costs a lot of people are better off with child care vouchers
