Post subject: Back to Work issue
I am due back to work, March next year and my position prior to my maternity leave was a Sales Manager in retail full time. I want to return on a part time basis but I have only been offered 6 hours a week as a Sales assistant.
Can they get away with this?

how long have you been off? if it's 6 months or less, they have to offer you your old job back (if it still exists) on the same terms and conditions. If its more than that, they have to offer you an equivalent position.
I suspect that because you are actively asking for a change in working patterns, they are able to ignore the return to work laws. You might be better off going back to your old job full time initially, then waiting for an opportunity to job share or go part time.
