Post subject: about to start sterilisation reversal Hi all,
I am almost 41, in 3 weeks I was sterilised 15 years ago as was in a unhappy relationship, I have 3 children. I'm now with an amazing man and we are desperate for a child, he has no children. I have been intouch with a hospital to have the opp, private. I am visiting my GP tomorrow to ask for any test I may require, fertility, etc. I want to start proceeding asap and dreading bad news with my age. Are there many ladies over 40 with success stories of reversal? We did consider IVF but feel a higher chance of success with reversal. Thanks Tracy Posted: Tue Jul 10, 2012 7:53 pm

Post subject: I'd agree with Angel , if anything i think over 40 the IVF might be better as you gets lots of help to conceive and some clinics now specialise in older Ladies , I was very fertile in the past, had my reversal at 40 thinking it might be better than IVF and 2yrs on am not pregnant am coming up to 43 feel times run out and wish I'd gone for IVF 2 yrs ago

Post subject: Awwww...hope things work out for you.
I'm at doctors Friday for result of blood test to check fertility. I got all the information from the hospital about IVF and we just thought the results were too low so thought reversal woulbe our best chance of a baby. Hoping to see my consultant early august to discuss options. Really wish I had never had the reversal.x Posted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:16 am
Post subject: Trouble with the reversal Tracy is it seems it either works or doesn't and until you have the op you don't know which category you're in
I'd speak to more clinics, the one Angel mentioned above was reprofit which is a czech clinic, they do guarantees as well so if you need more than one cycle it can work out cheaper (I got a quote for less than £3,000 from them for IVF with ICSI and going to blast which would be almost double that in the UK and they have good success rates There's a lot to consider though, my bloods all came back great and on paper i should have had a great chance of success, but i was only left with one tube after the reversal as the other couldn't be saved and the one I did have was blocked within 6 months A lot depends on how destructive the original op was as to the length and condition of your tubes after reversal, plus even perfectly healthy looking tubes sometimes just don't work well after reversals I know a lot of stuff now I wish I knew before i went for the reversal over IVF . Trouble is with trying the reversal first is how long do you give it before trying something else because over 40 you don't have as much time You're not alone though in wishing you were never sterilised there are a lot of us about, theres a getting pregnant thread (part 13 ) which has lots of Ladies pre and post op on there if you want any advice , good luck xx
