bobbly swollen vein in labia - ew!

Post subject: bobbly swollen vein in labia - ew! Well the exclamation makes me sound rather upbeat, when in actual fact ive been hysterically crying at my husband after noticing my right labia was droopy and lower than usual.
On closer inspection i saw that if i pinched it there were horrid dark bobbles, and i am thinking this could be a varicose vein. Is this normal? Has anyone else got this, and if so will it get worse, will it hurt, will it go away by itself after the baby is here? I am only 20 weeks pregnant - didnt expect such gross changes this early on! Post subject: varicose veins in pregnancy are very common, especially down below. dont worry - i know tons of people its hapened to. if your still concerns pop and see the nurse or midiwfe - they go after pregnancy mainly as the pressure is not there xxx

 and also it's normal to notice changes in the size of labia during pregnancy as they can swell with all the extra blood volume ,sometimes more one side than the other , and you can get very purple looking down there  all pretty normal, although alarming at first and generally things go back to how they were after the birth when the pressures off as happyhell said xx Posted: Fri Sep 07, 2012 3:37 pm
Post subject: I had this with both pregnancies, and now, nearly two weeks after giving birth to our girl, the labia are back down to their original size, but the veins are still there (smaller and no longer painful though). I found them quite painful in both pregnancies, and second time around made sure my midwife was aware of them (they rarely cause complications, but better to cover all bases, right?). She told me she'd refer me to a specialist if they weren't noticeably better by my 6-week check-up, which I found reassuring. Looks like I won't be needing that referral as things are improving every day.
I get how distressing this is ... I wore support tights and made sure I got plenty of exercise, didn't stand or sit in the same position for too long ... all of which made it easier second time around. They will improve, and probably actually disappear completely, right after delivery, so take heart! _________________
