If money isn't an issue I would go for nursery - apart from anything else if you have your foot in the door there it will give you an option if the grandparents can't take him one week (ill, broken bones, or on holiday), or if work want an extra day as a one-off for any reason. Usually the nursery will let you buy extra days as a one-off if they aren't full.
Another option might be half days at nursery, depending if they could get there to pick him up or drop him off.
Have the grandparents tried having him for the whole day without you around at all to see how it works out? If they are up for it I would look into a class (e.g music, gym) or toddler group that they can take him to on the day they have him.
My kids have learnt loads at nursery and whilst the grandparents love spending time with them I know they'd find the whole day rather too much (they're not local and still work so there was no option for us when I went back to work).
