Can't say from experience as am currently at the same stage as you, wanting to express but not started yet. My health visitor said it is best to wait until at least 6 weeks before expressing, as that is when the milk situation is more established, don't know if I'll be waiting that long.

Hi

I started to express when my little girl was three weeks old, as I had a couple of appointments. She took the switch well, but she won't take the bottle from myself, only from the Grandparents, I think it's cos she can smell it on me, and then wants the boob Embarassed lol

Jade10 did it cause any problems with your milk and the amount you produced?

I started expressing at almost 5 weeks (my lactation nurse said to wait 4) to prepare him for when I sadly go back to work. My guy has taken a bottle from both my husband and I. At first he was fussy, but with patience he took it and switches back and forth without any problems. Yesterday he drank his whole bottle that I gave him and wanted more, so I whipped out his best friend-lol and he didn't seem to notice!

I didn't express much at first-only 1 oz, and now I can get 3 pretty quickly. If your wee one is taking a long nap, that's a good time so you can express like it was a feeding.
