Post subject: I'm a flight attendant and see lots of mums and babes all the time. Don't stress coz if they get wind you're anxious it'll make them more restless. Make sure you are prepared to feed/have dummy for take off and landing to help their ears clear but i wouldn't worry too much - if they're a bit sore the crying will soon cause them to self clear. Usually on the ground is the toughest part - it's not easy for you to move around the plane (ie walk about to soothe them) space is limited, they're in a new environment and there's lots of strangers standing over them. My experience is that the crying usually stops on pushback as the movement of taxiing and take off is soothing.
Don't hesitate to ask for help on the ground or from the crew on board - it's what they're there for. Try being cheeky at check-in to see if they can allocate a spare seat without you paying - at the end of the day if your baby is happy then the other passengers will be happier too! Ask for bottled water if you're breast feeding and take plenty of snacks/things to amuse/suck on regardless of how long the flight is. Don't rely on the airline for suppplies coz if you get a delay, they'll do their best but they might run out of what you need (nappies/wipes etc) I do really long trips (including NZ Taz Safe Flying - I can't wait til my LO arrives in March and i can start planning our 1st family hol!!! Post subject: Hi SParky
I took some cartons of formula with me and some jars of food. However, at security they told me that I had to open them all and taste each of them. I said there is no point and they might as well throw them away as they will go off once opened. Once I was past security I went straight to boots and bought cartons and jars of food for her. On the way back from the canaries they didn't say anything, I had bottles of water, jars of food, milk powder everything and no one said a thing! _________________

Post subject: Franco you probably don't work for Ryanair then as they are really not very good in taking care of mums and babies as for BA is fantastic. My advice just like Franco try and stay calm. Your baby probably will cry a little but will soon fall asleep when in the air. Don't think of anybody else just you and baby. Take books with you and little toys you can easily put in a little bag. I would wait till after security to buy food and drink as I had to throug lots of it away as well.
Good Luck Girls and relax. PS: if you travel with Ryanair wait till you are the last person to get on the plan and then just ask ppl to sit where you want to sit this way you don't stress in standing in a cue for hours and with a baby ppl will gladly make room for you...LOL. _________________ ![]() Posted: Sat Jan 30, 2010 1:13 pm
Post subject: Don't worry about the baby crying. I was stressing for ages about ELsie crying on the plane but she didn't cry at all.
We went with Easyjet so were putas a Priority boarder and there were lots of babies on the plane and I didn't hear one cry all the way over. I just gave ELsie her bottle as we were about to take off and she fell to sleep. I took a whole bag of toys on the plane with me too my OH thought i was being excessive but it was worth it as he is a terrible flyer so basically I had to deal with her on my own. On hte way back she didn't cry at all and again there were a few babies on the plane. Only one cried on descent but that was probably his ears and no-one seemed to be bothered by it, I could just hear people saying poor little things ears have probably popped. I made sure I gave elise a dummy and she seemed fine. xx _________________

Post subject: Hi
We took our son to Turkey when he was 5 months old the first time and he was great. He slept and played most of the time. He has since flown every year and we have never had a problem. We flew to Florida in Sept, he is 5 and I was 9 weeks pregnant and even it was great even although it was 10 hours! We have booked to go to Turkey this Sept, so my son will be 6 and the baby will 5 months old. I am hoping we will have the same great experiences we have had i the past. Hope everyone enjoys their holidays x _________________
