People don’t usually respect their parents when the parents have not taught their children anything about respect. The child’s behavior is in the hands of the parents. It is only them who can influence their kids to show respect and behave well. No matter how old a person grows, he should still show respect to everyone, regardless of age. The best example for children to follow is through their parents. If they show respect towards others, it is most likely their children would as well.

And another reason for this may be due to the fact that parents do not respect their children. Respect should be mutual: you should give respect to get respect.
