child tax credit changes

Post subject: As I understand it, its not just the rate of earnings its the amount you are expected to work. I am currently single parent (partner does not live with me due to work circumstances and he owns his house where as I only rent, we are extending his house but obviously will take some time), I currently work the minimum to receive tax credits for a couple of reasons, primarily as its the most I am physically able to work due to a long term health condition. I don't like to think of myself as disabled! When the new rules come in the minimum you can work is 24 hours a week. I think if it comes in in April I will be on mat leave but will the minimum hours still apply and will I lose my tax credits? Also I don't think I can physically work 24 hours a week. I haven't worked that many hours since 2000 as I know if I work more I just end up having loads of time off sick due to my health problem. I really can't face applying for DLA as I don't like to think of myself as disabled!

Post subject: Hi its 40k from april 2011 then reduces to 30k from april 2012 ...as a single parent you will still only have to work 16hrs its couples who will have to have one person working 24hrs ......ggmarch...i do think you should apply for dla though .....however well you manage you will get more tax credits and you could put some of your dla away for things like holidays etc ....you will get far more financial allowances if you get dla ....

Post subject: I can't stand the admin that goes with it either, stresses me out. The tax credits, housing benefits etc are stressful enough. always worry that I will put something down wrong. My specialist nurse has said she will help me apply for DLA and blue badge (which will ensure that I get an unrestricted parking permit at work, new rules come in that mean you can only park your car for 80% of the time you are working there, anything more and you get charged £35 a day, its hard enough getting to work dropping the kids off etc without that).

Post subject: my son gets dla and yes the forms to fill in a crazy but he is now 8 and on his 5th year of dla, he now has a nice little sum of money in his bank acc....the money gets paid to me and i transfer it to his acc so when he gets older he may need it for things ....we dont get housing benefit but i get carers allowance that helps with treats and things for the kids and if i was entitled to tax credits i would get around and extra £40 a week i think as he is on the highest rate of dla ...id say witht he cuts that are being made i will be expected to fund more of the things he needs so i may have to in time use some of his money for that .....but the way i see it is why shouldnt you get it ???? nearly everyone else would claim it and many who shouldnt do claim it ....we do have a blue badge but honestly i never use it as luke is in a wheelchair but there is nothing wrong with my legs so we park wherever it makes no difference to him as he just gets pushed around.

Post subject: I agree, does that just cover the child element or the childcare element? If it removes the childcare element there will be an awful lot of women for whom it isn't worth working, surely this defeats the object. At one stage if I hadn't received childcare element of tax credit (when I was married, me working part time, ex working full time), by the time I had paid fuel to get to and from work it really wouldn't have been worth it at all.

Thats rubbish ! 30k isn't much if you both work full time ! its very bad and im sure i read somewhere its due to go down further after 2013 .....i understand cuts need to be made but why on earth would they make it so that people will just sit and think well i will be better off on benifits ????? there has to be a better way of doing things than just cuts cuts cuts ..... _________________ Thea-Our Darling Daughter with us for 2 special days ....always loved missed more ..... I assume it won't be the child care element as you can have that or child care vouchers. And childcare vouchers anyone can have ? we are getting both getting childcare vouchers so won't get the childcare element anyway. Post subject: Also if more women work it surely creates more jobs in other ways - directly in childcare etc and indirectly as they have more spending power. If you are only going to work to get a few £ a month after childcare and fuel etc why would you bother !
