Post subject: Polycystic Ovaries
Hi

My friend went for fertility tests as she was wondering why she cant conceive and they did a scan and told her she had polycystic ovaries.. she came straight to me as i have alot of probs with my womb, bt i didnt know what to say

I have read up on it.. on the net which isnt the best and have found there are ways to conceive with this problem. She is convinced that she hasnt got it as she doesnt have all the symptoms.. but if her doc says she has that means she definitely has doesnt it?

I dont want her reading on the net and freaking herself out so i was wondering if anyone else has had this, or know about it.. thanks alot guys Smile xxx

hi mum2b, i'm in a similar situation, i had my ultrasound in July which has showed extra cysts on my ovaries...but i don't have pcos as my bloods show my testosterone level is very low (its high in people with pcos) and i'm pretty regular and no other symptoms etc.

Tell her not to give up at all, it doesn't mean she can't have kids, it may just mean she has to be put on clomid for a bit. I'm waiting for a lap and dye just to check out the internals then they're planning to put me on clomid. In the meantime i'm taking agnus castus to help regulate my hormone levels.

hope this helps, fell free to pm if you or your friend want anymore help (my doc gave me loads of info)

Helen xxx

hey i have this condition and it was only discovered late last year but the only symptoms i had was iregular periods and because i was so young when they stopped i took no notice and welcomed the no periods but obviously you grow up and i met someone 3 an a half years ago and decided i wanted kids but never thinking it would be hard as my periods seemed ok to me so we tried and about a year later i finally fell pregnant then my world came crashing down when i miscarried at just 6 weeks my periods returned to normal for a while and we went on as before not really trying but leaving it down to god and fate then my periods stopped again for 6 months so went to the doctors and had a scan that showed i had polistic ovaries symptom and was refered to the specialist (sorry dont know how to the spell the correct word) and was told that it does not mean i couldnt concieve but that it may be harder and my best chance was to lose some weight as i am classed as obese and so thats what i decided to do was to get myself into the best shape i could and for a while my main objective was not focused on trying to get pregnant and i lost nearly 4 stone over 8 months with sensible eating and just walking regularly and within 3 to 4 months later i fell pregnant again so i would say to your friend is never to give up hope and if i can fall pregnant at my size and this time managed to get past the dreaded 3 month stage then i am sure she will and i know it seems really hard sometimes but i believe that it will happen naturally when the time is right but anything is possible. she is very lucky to have a good friend helping and supporting her through this as i had nobody to talk to and its so important to have people around you at these difficult and very trying times. hope that helped if you need anymore advice i am very happy to help in any way i can. Very Happy

Hey girls, thnx for u replies!

Thanx for ur advice, it has given me a better understanding of the subject and to hear about ur experiences gives me hope for her..

She is also overweight, which i dont understand as she eats healthier than me.. i mean like a rabbit and goes to the gym twice a day!! and has a personal trainer and the weight still wont shift.. i mean she really kills herself.. she gave up the booze too as obviously this is a major calorie intake and still didnt lose weight?!
Ive read that it can be so hard to lose weight with this disorder (not sure if thats the correct termonology) so even though it tells u to try and lose weight she is really trying..

I havent heard from her in a long time now (about 3 weeks which is long for me and her to not talk) and i feel as though she is distancing herself from me.. she has also started drinking again and i feel like she is letting herself go as the hope has gone.. she actually got intouch today which was nice but she quickly scooted off.. i dont feel guilty as such but i feel like my pregnancy is driving a wedge between us..

I have Endo, and ovarian cysts, and was told it would be a very long strenuous task for me to conceive.. i had just had a laporoscopy, hysteroscopy and a d and c.. and they still couldnt find what they were looking for.. i was sooo gutted.. as i got my hopes up too much in first place.. the cpl of days after op, found out my SIL was pregnant! And tbh i was gutted.. i thought im gonna have to watch her through her pregnancy, when the docs have told me that it will be hard for me to conceive.. anyhoo, 2 weeks later i kept fainting and after a trip to a and e checking my wound seeing if it was infected.. i decided to get some tests on way home.. they came up positive!! My gynae knows its cause of his work.. and im convinced too, as never conceived in 3 years before this..!

So i kind of know how she feels if that makes sense.. but i jsut want her to realise, there is no point giving up, this WILL happen for her!!xxxx

Post subject: PCOS
Hi PCOS patient

Hi i have been trying for a baby over a year last christmas i got diagonsed with PCOS when i missed a 5 month period !!!!!, I had a ultrasound scan which is the only way to see if a women has PCOS 5 in 10 women get PCO Polycistic Ovaries and only 1 in 10 actually get PCOS which is different Polycistic Ovaries Syndrome which is what you have to live with the rest of your life there is no cure for this it is a myth to what caused the syndrome they do beleive it is past down from the men is the family which can carry this and pass on to their daughters, but remember they are only CARRY'S so it dont effect their sperm, There is no explanation for PCOS and in the long run can become dangerous if not careful a women with PCOS has a higher chance of cancer of the womb, diabetics, heart attack or heart disease thats why we have treatment, My Ovaries are actually covered in cysts which is what PCOS is all about and makes a women less/very infertile depending how long it is left unnoticed, A women can get treatment and do have lots of checks ups there are lots of fertility treatment out there which women with PCOS sucessfully concieve....

I am not on treatment at the moment as my year has just ran out (GYNE GIVES A COUPLE A YEAR TO TRY AND CONCIEVE BY THEMSELFS) before taking treatment, But as im nearly 2 months late and have all pregnancy signs and positive & negaitive tests hopefully i have sucessfully concieved (not getting hopes up to much thou)

1. PLEASE DO NOT FEEL BAD IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT, PLUS SHE WOULD NOT WANT YOU TO FEEL LIKE THAT SHE WILL JUST BE CONFUSED AND UPSET RIGHT NOW BUT TELL HER RESEARCH IT, HAVING PCOS DOES NOT MEAN YOUR ACTUALLY INFERTILE IT JUST MEANS ITS HARDER AND TAKES MORE TIME FOR WOMEN WITH PCOS TO CONCIEVE.
2. I WAS SOO WORRIED AT FIRST WHEN DOCTOR TOLD ME AS I WAS ONLY 19 AT THE TIME NOW 20 I WAS IN BITS, DEFO TELL YOUR FRIEND TO RESEARCH PCOS, WILL PUT HER MIND AT EASE.
3.I WOULD RECOMMEND YOUR FRIEND TO GO TO PCOS GROUPS AND FORUMS ON WEBSITE THEY HELPED ME ALOT.
4. TELL HER TO NEVER GIVE UP EVERYONES DREAM COMES TRUE JUST TAKES TIME AND ALOT OF TLC.

Tell your friend i wish her all the best and everything will turn out fine and when she does get that little bundle of joy she will be soooo over the moon and full of joy, just keep trying and dont give up, baby dust to all of you xx

Hey how are you?

my heart goes out to your freind i have pcos too and after 4 years trying for a baby my son is now 7 weeks old, i did not have any other symptoms then little to no periods. i think the problem is easily diagnosed so i think if the doctors says she has it i would say she has. i also know their is lots the doctors can do which will ensure your freind will become a mummy. when she is ready advise her to ask for clomid it has a fairly good sucess rate. if she would like to know anything else please ask am happy to help.
