Post subject: SMP and returning to work
Hi,

My SMP runs out next month and i am not due back to work till June, but due to finances im going to have to go bac to work next month.
My question is i HATE my job and have been in the same kind of work for 12 yrs. I want to try something new, but not sure how about leaving my current job and how this would affect my SMP.

Once my SMP runs out, do i legally have to go back to work or could i hand in my notice in the standard way? Worried if i hand in my notice i would have to pay back ALL my SMP?

Also how many hours do i have to work to qualify for help with childcare costs?

you won't need to pay back SMP but you might need to pay back anything your work gave you in addtion - it depends on your contract and notice period etc. Instead of help with childcare costs a lot of people are better off with child care vouchers

This is useful as a guide
