Post subject: screaming when feeding.... please help :( hi ladies really need some mum advice my lo is now 7 weeks 5 days and for the past 4 weeks hes been screaming, arching his back and pushing his bottle away during feeds (it sounds like hes in pain and its not a cry but a scream and if i persist and really try by comforting and rocking him he'll take the whole bottle and i know its not that hes full because hes on hungry baby milk as i struggle to make his last 4 hours till his next feed... sometimes all i have to do is put him in position i feed him in and he'll start but he doesnt start doing this until hes drank 2-3 oz) he then developed a cough a week after this started so midwife said if it gets worse take him the docs so ended up taking him out of hours n it turned out he had a chest infection n was put on antibiotics (before that midwife nhs direct and doc all send it was trapped wind!) he started taking his feeds amazing but as soon as he came off them it started again and have been out of hours twice now with him n both times ther not giving me any answers AT ALL (just going oh his temperature is fine and his chest is clear so thers no infection even though iv told them i no its clear!!) and have said as long as he gaining weight (wich he is was born 7.7 n was 10.8 last week wen i got him weighed but weight gain was slower when he had chest infection) and is having plenty of dirty n wet nappies hes fine!! even oh is agreeing saying it trapped wind and i no it isnt i no something is wrong so i googled his symptoms and it came up he may have silent reflux has anyone else had these problems? i am sooo worried about him and its really getting me down so your help would be much appreciated as this is my first baby thanks
p.s its not trapped wind as hes been on double dose infacol for a week now and that has done nothing also hes a really good burper even burps himself and recently when i lie him on mat to change him he'll be sick wich he never done before he was never ever sick except wen first born due to mucus. _________________

Post subject: Hi hun, sounds a lot like my daughter was, which was constantly put down to colic, even the hv kept writing in her book that she was having trouble bringing her wind up, which wasnt true. she could burp and fart better than her dad!
she would scream and arch her back, often feed regularly in small amounts, sick up after every feed, and even for some time after a feed. but i was told that as long as she was gaining weight and not bringing an entire feed up than she was fine, and the reason she fed a lot was cos she was sick. being a first time mom, i accepted their answers, after all they are the professionals, but after speaking to other moms on here im pretty sure she had reflux. keep on pestering your doctor and hv for help. you know your baby best. _________________

Post subject: BRILLIANT NEWS!!! took george the doctors today with a 2 page note of everything thats been up with him at the ready so doctor couldnt try and fob me off told her everything that was wrong didnt even mention i thought he had silent reflux and she said it sounds as if its silent reflux (and does not think it was trapped wind at all) and that the reason he was probably better when on antibiotics was because the antibiotics are very thick so would of been coating his tummy and wind pipe wich would of been stopping it from coming up and she prescribed him some infant gaviscon well..... i gave him a sachet in his last bottle and he took it the best hes taken one since all this started!!

Post subject: Hi.
As u said, the Gaviscon won't really do much if ur LOus already on hungry milk as all the Gavison dies us thicken the milk so it's less likely to come back up. As I said, it made my LO worse. Could always ask about the Ranitidine liquid medication? Would do no harm. Ur gp can prescribe it to you. Let me know how u get on! Xx _________________ [ [

Post subject: hi took him the doctors this morning and she seemed pleased with the progress hes made and said as long as thers a difference itl b working. He is doing alot better just grunting every now and then through his feeds and iv noticed his stomach is no longer gurgling during feeds like it was before) well except for his last 2 today hes been wingeing again (finishing his bottles still) but he had his first lot of needles this morning so is very grouchy and sleepy and got a bit of a tempurature so its down to that i think hes also a bit constipated now

Post subject: My gp told me that u should c an improvement with Gavisvon within the first 3-4 days if it's going go work. That's why after 5days they changed my DDs meds to something stronger. Hope ur LO continues to improve. X

Post subject: hi george got worse last night (wouldnt take more than an oz and was screaming hysterically) so took him out of hours doctor spent ages checking him over and prescribed him some Ranitidine hes on 0.4ml 3 times a day (hes 11.9 lbs) so just waiting for chemist to open to pick prescription up. just wondered is it ok to just give him it in syringe 3 times a day in between feeds because i think he'll benifit from that more. has anyone else done it like this? doctor said it would be ok. how long does it take to start working? thanks x
