Post subject: Semen analysis issues
Husband and I been trying 16 months. We've recently been for fertility tests(bloods and ultrasound in my case, sa in his). My bloods came back ok-in fact I have double the amount of progesterone required to prove ovulation. Scan showed nothing bad either. My GP told me we'd need to try for 2 years before getting a referral to a specialist.

Since then, hubby's SA has come back. Volume 4.8ml amd PH 7.9 so these are ok. Also normal appearance and consistancy and liquefaction complete at 1 hour.

He has a low sperm count(9 million per ml).

Also Only 10% grade A for motility, 0 grade B, 9% grade C and 81% grade D so motility is really far lower than it should be too.

Slightly abnormal morphology, with 13% normal forms and 87% abnormal.

Anyone had something similar to this come back and not been retested? I'm a bit confused as I thought it was standard to retest?

Also, anyone had similar results to this (as in a mixture of problems come up with SA) and can you tell me whether your GP seemed quite positive about it or negative, whether they referred to a specialist and any more info they gave you about what it all means?

Thanks.

Hi hon, can't help much as I'm in a different position to you but didn't want to read and run.

It seems odd to me that you haven't been offered a second test - my OH had vasectomy reversal and when we got results of first test back (good but not amazing) GP immediately said she'd put us forward for a second test.

It would be worth pushing for a second test but if I were you I'd wait a couple of months, you can do a lot to improve sperm quality with vitamins etc so maybe get working on that and then you might get better results.

Good luck xx

Thanks WT. Just been reading up on infertility network UK and the "treatment" for oligozoospermia(poor motility with count under 20mill per ml) is ICSI.

I was surprised they weren't suggesting a repeat test too. He's already been taking vitamins. Wellman concieve since August last year but bout 1 months worth of Sanatogen father to be vitamins which he was getting to the end of when he produced his sample. Due to money, he had a couple of weeks off of vits but he's back on the wellman ones now. It appears they don't have nearly enough zinc in them(from something else I read on Infertility Network UK).

TBH this is doing my head in......I'm so anxious to get to Doctors on Tuesday morning to find out more about where we stand(and what my GP thinks of the fact his GP didn't mention a retest!)

Think I've cried at least once a day since he told me on Monday night...I'm googling but I think I've read all there is to read on it - think I'm looking for an accurate prediction of the future rather tha anything I can find on the internet(what will GP say, will we get referred, how long will we have to wait, will we EVER get to be parents and if so how will we get there). Sad

Aww hon, I'm sure you will be parents one day soon, and your long ttc journey will make it all the sweeter when it happens. I often wonder the same myself and it sends me a bit crazy. Some GPs really don't seem to care and you just have to be pushy and firm, we all pay tax don't we!!
Good luck honey and try not to let this get you too down. At least you have a reason for not falling pregnant, sometimes it's good to have something to work with. xx
