Post subject: oesophagus muscle?
PLEASE PLEASE help!!!!
My son is 8mths old and has alwyas been a bit of a sicky baby but rather than improving with age its getting worse. He is constantly sick, bringing up both milk AND food. This can happen straight after food or at any other time of the day, there isnt really a pattern though it can be worse in the evening. Some days he has a good day and is hardly sick but most days he is sick at least 8 times He is quite happy and smiles as he is being sick so dosnt appear to be in pain. On one bad day he was sick 10 times in an hour and a half!!!! This really is terrible for him. We have been to docs and HV, he has had gaviscon hich didnt help and tried different milk and kept a food diary but nothing seems to help. He has been referred to hospital but its still 3 weeks away (and that was an urgent appt!) We are at a total loss now. His clothes are all stained as is our carpet. He constantly smells of sick. He is sic on pp and we are now reluctant to take him to ppls houses incase he stains their carpet. He was sick all over the checkout at Asda and couldnt take him swimming incase was sick in pool. It is such a shame and a total stress. The HV said it sounds like a muscle that closes his stomach i weak andthat this is apparently quite common but they wont do anything about this till he is 1 year old!!!!! That is insane! 4 more month of this?!! The srange thing is he isnt losing weight. I am taking hi to docs again tomorrow and going to be stroppy mummy and I am getting annoyed that noone is takin this serioulsy.
Has anyone experienced this?!!

Post subject: Sick all the time
Hi my 7 and a half month old son is the same, all his clothes are stained with food. I tried Gaviscon which didn't work i tried changing his milk and again it didn't work. I have been given retitadine which doesn't seem to be working either. HV and docs are saying it is more a nuisance factor (for me) as he is still gaining weight and he looks happy and healthy enough. I am thinking it may be an ingredient in his food like tomatoes so i am going to try not giving him foods with tomatoes in it and see from there. He does have long periods of time even a full day where he is a little sick which is nothing really in comparison then the next day he can be really bad and constantly sick. Although my son is happy enough i cant help but feel he must be irritated with bib after bib soaking wet and getting changed constantly. My older son was the same when he was a few weeks old but i changed his milk to SMA Staydown and it worked insistently...not so simple with second son. Any advice is welcome...please!

I am so happy to hear that we aren't the only ones! (though not happy you are going through this too!) Our son is now nearly 10mths and it is still as bad as it has ever been. We have had appts at hospital and he is now on medication to try and strenghthen the muscle at the top of his stomach but nothing has changed at all. DSome days he isnt sick at all and then on others its non-stop. Very strange and now really gettingin the way of him enjoying activities (cant take him swimming whch is such a shame as he loves it!)
I get very annoyed by the docs though as they just look at hm and see he is happy and puttingon weight so dont bother with him. They dont even check him over and have told e a few times that he is quit a bg boy so maybe I shold feed him less! This really annoys me as I really dont overfeed him. my daughter was big as a baby and now she is super skinny! However we are persevering with the med and will see how we get on. Let me know if you find any miracle cure!!!

My eldest was like this. She was always bringing up milk from when she was born. Some time projectile. When I took her to the dr he said her stomach muscle wasn't strong enough but she would grow out of it. He said it was reflux. Soooo, we waited and waited. The Hv said it would stop when she went onto solids, it never, then when she walks and is more up right, it never. She eventually stopped when she was about 18 months. She is now 8 and is very rarely ill.
The worst thing was the constant cleaning up, changing clothes and then feeding her again because she would be hungry.

Post subject: No more sickness!!
Hi thought i would update you with my ds progress. Initially i felt the medicine was not working, after taking him off it after 2 weeks his sickness was terrible and much worse than when he was on retitadine. He was off it for just over a week before his consultation with the doctor again and it was terrible he was sick all day after each feed, didn't matter if it was tomato based or not (which threw that theory out the window!). Obviously the medicine had worked but just took time to get into his system and do something.....so the Doctor said to put him back on it and try him for a few months, then take him off it and see from there. He was back on it for almost 4 weeks, but this time i only gave him one dose in the morning rather than the 2 doses (breakfast and lunch) which stopped the sick completely......there would be the odd bit of sick but it was like a pin drop in comparison to a full feed. I took him off retitadine almost 2 weeks ago and so far (fingers crossed) he has been fine, he has been a little sick but nothing in comparison to previously. He will be 9 months old so don't know if he has grown out of the sickness thing or if the medicine did help. I know if he starts being sick again i can get a prescription and get him back on the retitadine and then start again. Hopefully this helps and you can get rid of the constant sickness also.
