Post subject: we have a portage worker and we all love her
her role is to come in and help with anything you think needs focusing on...so for example, lily-ann could do with improving her eye gazing, so when she's here she focuses on that...we worried that the portage might step on the toes of the OT/physio etc but she doesn't ours is also helping us with finding a good nursery etc...it's more like a social visit when she comes than an actual appointment i think they're kind of just there to be helpful in any way they can _________________ ![]()

Post subject: Yes I had portage for Shannah since she was 2 until she started nursery. They do developmental work through play and concentrate on whatever targets your child needs to meet. For instance my daughter has down syndrome so one of the ones for her was coordination. Basically they do a lot of things to help ease them into nursery. My portage worker was okay but she was very opinionated and tried to push me into mainstream schooling for Shannah which I did try for a bit but she's now in a school for children with disabilities. I found I got more information out of my HV than I did my portage worker lol

Post subject: Hia yes they come every week now, not in school holidays though. They set targets and work a similar framework to the EYFS but a bit simpler steps. They have identified that he also needs speech and language therapy so that referral has been sent off too. x
