Help!! Babys cord (pic)

Post subject: Help!! Babys cord (pic) Hey ladies Im just about to clean lo's cord but does this look normal to you???
My lo is 6days old.. It smells and seems to not be drying.. What should i do??? Shesmy first baby so unsure what to expect..

Post subject: to be honest it looks normal to me. my first sons was basically ripped off by a midwife when he was 4 days old when she was showing me how to top and tail. my youngest seems to take forever to dry out think it was 3 weeks before it came of. just keep cleaning it with cooled boiled water and cotton wool and keep the front of babys nappy down and if you can just have her in a nappy and a t shirts for an hour or so a day to let the air get to it that'll help it dry. does she seem in pain with it when you move it? it probably will smell abit due to it being covered by babys clothes. get your health visitor or doctor to have a look to be on the safe side.x

Post subject: Well i had midwife yesterday she said just try and let some air get to it..
Thats why im a bit hesitant to ring midwife as she saw yesterday  my mum and mil said it looks fine to them.. Ive had it out most of the day.
How many times a day do you clean it? Xxx _________________

Post subject: That looks very raw to.me and it shouldn't smell
My LOs cord shriveled up and dropped off in 10 days. Keep the area around it clean and free from guns...use a bit of saline/salt water...and have it exposed as much as poss. Avoid bathing her until it's dropped off, just top and tail. X _________________   Posted: Sat Aug 11, 2012 6:16 pm
Post subject: I personally don't think it should look like that either.I don't mean foru to worry unnecessarily but it looks sore and raw to me too. Just out of curiosity are you tucking the clip inside the nappy and it's catching or outside ? I'd definitely give your hv a call if it's not cleared up by Monday. (Don't think ours work over weekend but might be different for u) just keep washing it with warm water and cotton wool and dry it really well and try for it not to catch or rub on anything. Xxx

Post subject: After 3 babies myself, that doesn't look healthy to me. i would definitely ring the HV on Monday and ask her to come out and have a look, especially with the smell. could be infected

Post subject: Joshy's was a little gunky and did bleed a little for quite a while but it looked nothing like that. I too would say check with your hv as it doesnt look quite right.
