Post subject: If it says 3/5th eng then it means baby is 3.5ths into the pelvis - getting ready to go! if it is palp then it means that that many 5ths of the baby's head is still 'palpable' (feelable) out of the pelvis - so if it's 1/5th engaged, then it's 4/5ths palp, 2/5th eng = 3/5ths palp, etc - most MWs will record it in terms of how engaged the baby is - not how much of the head is out of the pelvis so ENG is more common to see than PALP.

Post subject: Oh that's good, but isn't it right that second and subsequent babies don't always engage until labour anyway?

Post subject: First baby's start to engage from 36wks and tend to stay there till labour.
Second + baby's can engage and pop in and out of the pelvis and some don't actually engage till labour. My SIL's baby was engaged from 35wks (second baby), she got all excited thinking he'd show early lol, she went 10 days overdue _________________ ![]()
