How many oz?

Post subject: How many oz? Hey, sorry if its the wrong place but my lo is 19 weeks tomorrow and she only takes 3-4oz each feed..
Is this normal? How much did/does your lo take at this age? Thanks Xx _________________

Post subject: Hmm, depends on how many bottles she takes per day. I think mine were still being bottle fed (only) at 5 months (started solids at 6 months), so they probably had 4 x 180mls a day (7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm). Thats about 6oz per bottle.

Post subject: I think my 2 were on about 5oz a bottle at that point but they were prem so they had worked up to that from a very tiny amount!
How much is she drinking in one day? Its supposed to be about 2.5 oz for every lb our baby weighs x _________________

Post subject: my daughter was having 4 of 7-8oz, and during a growth spurt she would have an extra 4-5oz mid morning. she was sleeping through the night, so would have 4 feeds 4 hours apart in the day.

Post subject: She weighes 14lb 3 and shes started waking in night for a bottle as before she was having that extra bottle through the day.. Just as long as it sounds pretty normal for her age thats all im fussed about.. Xx

Post subject: Well going by the 2.5oz for every lb that would mean she should be having about 35oz in 24 hours and if shes having 7 bottles a day of 4oz then thats only 28oz but if shes not taking more than that there isnt much you can do i dont think x

i was always told to make sure you had an oz extra than what shed normally have. so say she has 4oz per feed always offer her5! that way if there was some left in the bottle, younwere sure she was full plus wen she started finshing that oz, u knew it was time to offer her more. Post subject: I always offer her 5oz but she generally takes about 3 ansd half most of the time if she does take more shes usually sick as if ive forced it on her
 Shes always gained weight though. It just made me think because of the babies at surestart etc... So just thought id enquire Xx_________________

Post subject: Alice is on 7oz but she's draining them now so I'm going to think about weaning her soon. I spoke to the HV around the same age as your LO Gem and she said they should be on 30 oz a day. For me I think that was 6oz every 4 hours but some days she was having slightly less than 30oz and sometimes a bit more. Alice sleeps through though so maybe that's why she was taking bigger bottles. 3/4oz seems quite low to me BUT as long as she's gaining weight and healthy it's fine. They used to tell me that Adam wasn't taking enough on his feeds and they had me so worried even though I told them he was settled on what he was on but then when he got weighed he was always fine.
