Post subject: Aromatherapy
Can anyone recommend any oils that smell nice and are relaxing but safe to use in pregnancy. Want to use aromatherapy as a trigger for my hypnotherapy so want to familiarise myself with something through the pregnancy. I have camomile but it doesnt really have a smell. Any good recommendations? xx

Direct from the Oxford Handbook of Midwifery (2011)

Lavender - not to be used with epidurals and should be used minimally in conjunction with injectable narcotics - not to be used by people with hay fever and asthma

Chamomile - not before term

Clary sage - not before term - may cause headaches if overused

Mandarin

Lemon

All these above are for labour specifically and early labour. You may need to look them up for uses in pregnancy.

Oh and if you like an oil but you don't like the smell, you can add lemon to it and it takes off the edge x

Direct quote

'Chamomile should not be used until late pregnancy because of the emmonagogic properties, which theoretically may induce menstruation'

Im sure you will be fine, just don't use it from now on Smile xxx
