Post subject: Weight Loss
Hi all
Haven't really posted much here for such a long time, but I've finally got to a place where I could come back.
I'm totally on track with my weight loss, with 42 pound down so far, unfortunately 124 still to go, but I am a quarter of the way there now, so that's good.
I was just wondering, for those of you that are like me or were like me, who on the exceedingly porky side, did your weight loss help.
So far, no period has come along, it's been about 15 months since my last one.
I have PCOS, Hashimotos Hypothyroiditis, spinal disease, osteo arthritis, a splenectomy, etc.
I am also on a LOT of medication, almost all of which I will have to cease when periods become regular again, and one which must increase.
Did the weight loss help you?
I have gone from a BMI of 51 to 45 so far. I know being pregnant at this weight is nothing short of stupid, especially with my medical problems, so the plan is to lose the weight and then to visit a fertility specialist (me endocrinologist has said soon as I reach goal I'm to get myself to one ASAP if I'm not alReady pregnant, which he seems to feel is u likely.
I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that maybe, just maybe, I will end up with a baby. I know the weight loss is good for me, but I want baby, as does my dear darling husband.

Sorry for the blah.

Congratulations girl! Sounds like you are doing great!! I had a cousin that was about 360 lbs she lost abt 120 lbs and got pregnant without even trying! She had joined Weight Watchers and was quite surprised when she learned that she was pregnant. I also had a former teacher that got pregnant after she lost 10 lbs. She was almost 40 and 260lbs.
Can I ask what you are doing to lose weight? I have taken 20 lbs off but gained a few back. I am abt 206 with a BMI of 36. If you want a weight loss buddy to talk to feel free to let me know.
I really do think that losing the weight will make it easier to concieve a baby. Just think of how much more energy you will have to chase the little one around. Very Happy I did read that if you have a BMI of 30 or over and get pregnant over 35 years old (some sites say 30) that your chances of having twins or triplets go up!! Smile But then you are at a higher risk for preclampsia and gestational diabetes.
Good luck and keep up the good work!! Sending you lots of baby dust for the future Smile

Thanks for your reply.
I'd love a weight loss buddy.
I live in Australia (my husband is English) and I am doing a program called Rapid Loss.
You have two shakes a day and a meal. I'm on 1000 calories a day or I won't lose weight. Been doing it mostly since the 10th December and have lost 31pound on it so far.
I am so hoping it works.

Weight loss is hard. When I reach the point where I just want to bawl (usually happens during those EPT commericials) I grab the exercise bike or glider. I am not very strong willed when it comes to giving up sweets but I have only had 3 pops in 3 weeks. Normally I would have 1-3 a day. I have noticed that I have become a couch potato so if I am watching tv I try to exercise a good part of that time.

I now have baby pictures all around my house and some on my refrigerator. I got a niece and nephew last year and magnetic photo frames that say I love my aunt from their parents so that does make me put back a good majority of the sweets I would normally pull from it. For Christmas I was also given enlarged pictures in frames of the babies with their parents and looking at them makes motivates me to push myself so I can lose weight for a baby. At 1st it hurt looking at them all the time but know I use it as motivation.

I am really impressed that you lost that much weight that quickly especially around the holidays. It seems to be working great!! Keep up the great work!!! Are you dealing with any hunger issues?

Wow well done on the exercise. I can't do much due to spinal disease and arthritis in both knees.
On Friday, I got home from work, and three steps before the top of the stairs, I dislocated my knee, not unusual to partially dislocate for me, bit this was a full snap crack scream and cry in agony lol.
Lot better now, but by no means ready to do exercise on.
I am going to borrow my mums small weights to help with my ostrich wings (far too big to be called bat wings lol).
It's taken me ages to get to the right mindset. I'm a firm believer that if you are not in the zone to diet, don't bother! If I'm not I can't last two hours let alone two months lol.
Hunger wise, the shakes are great. I'm also trying out the whole, you may think you're hungry, but in fact you are dehydrated and need water theory.
Right now, all I have in mind is the end result means a baby in my an DH's arms, it'll be worth the effort, you know?
Similar to the pics you put up which are a brilliant idea.
I currently weigh 321 with a BMI of 45 but started out at 366 with a BMI of 51 (fortunately I'm 5'11").
I have 122 pound to lose still, and will be a BMI of 27.5 but my doctors are happy with that.
Have you tried Pilates? I love it, want to start that again really soon, soon as my knee is back in shape a bit more.
What are you doing to lose weight?
Let's kick this in the butt and get our weight down and get our BFP's.

Baby dust.

I haven't been very good lately but when I am I use my glider, exercise bike or play Just Dance. I have started using my Tae Bo dvds again and just bought the Jillian Michael's 30 day shed exercise program. I bought a hula hoop and I am amazed at the sweat I break using it. I have been thinking about Pilates just haven't made it that far.

I am weak when it comes to food so I know if I am going to give into the sweet tooth on occasion I need to up my activity levels. Doing better though abt the sweets. We have free pop at work and while everyone else is drinking pop I am carrying drinking waters in refillable 20 oz bottles I bring from home. It helps me monitor my water intake. When I get the craving for a sweet drink I have been reaching for on the go Crystal Lite drink mix packets that I just dump in my bottle and shake it up.

It takes alot of willpower to eat healthy for me. I am so proud of you there. I always reach for sweets but am getting a lot better abt putting it back.

The weights will work wonders. I have despised weights every since I had to take a weight lifting class in high school but I am bought some small handheld ones to use with the video workouts. I had a neighbor who shed over 100 lbs by walking daily (she used handheld weight when she walked) and modifying her diet.

I think my problem is that when I saw the weight coming off I still expected to lose the same amount of weight with the same levels of exercise but as my body got used to it I needed to push myself even harder and I didn't. Instead I gave into holiday temptations and am now fighting with an infection from my teeth. It is amazing how much a sore tooth can effect your body.

Wow. 5'11" must be nice. I am a shorty at a little under 5'5". I could put of losing the weight for me but I can't put off losing the weight for the dream of a baby and a healthy pregnancy.

The dislocated knee doesn't sound fun! Just think taking off weight will really make it easier for them!! Smile Arrow

Wow I'm simply amazed at the exercise you re getting in. That's just so fantastic. Despite the weight you must be so fit.
I'm very impressed.
Lollies (sweets/candy) were always my thing too. I got some sugar free ones that help.
You poor thing, there is nothing so bad as pace and tooth pain, I totally understand.
Free drink at work... Wow!
The weight loss trailing off does become harder, I know. Try doing it when you don't exercise at all (lol). Ok, I do go up and down the stairs A LOT!!!
Lost another 2 pound, so at 47 pound lost now.
How much he you lost now?
What are do u live in.

I am not in very good shape but I am working on it. Smile I had been a big couch potato and have discovered I am a good cook (doesn't help weight loss any) I had been getting in abt 5 hrs of exercise a week. I pushed myself to 10 hrs and that was way to much. It burnt me out. So for a New Years gift to myself I bought some new exercise videos. I am hoping to re-energize I had lost 20 lbs before the holidays but I gained 5 back and took 4 of that back off. So I have lost abt 24 lbs since November. I am sure it was bc of my mouth (I ate a lot of mashed potatoes Embarassed ) . I also switched from clomid to femara which could have been some of the problem as well. So I have lost 24lbs so far. It isn't bad but isn't great. When I was getting that 5 hrs in every week I was losing 2-3 lbs a week. I am going to try to get my 5 hrs in this week Smile

Yay!! 2 more lbs! You are getting close to 50 lbs lost!! Are you going to reward yourself with a little gift?!! That is a big accomplishment.

I live in the US. I have been told most drs here don't want to treat you unless you have a BMI of 30 or less but a friend of a friend has a BMI similair to mine and they are allowing her to do IVF. How long have you and DH been TTC?

It sounds like you are working VERY hard on your fitness. That's amazing.
I had a feeling you were in the US.
You have done so well, that's fabulous. Keep up the good work.
How much more do you want to lose.

Me end DH have been ttc since June 2009. Nothing. In January 2009 we had a miscarriage, with the Hashimotos you have an incredibly increased chance to miscarry up to The 7th month.

Wat about you and your OH?

I need to lose 67 lbs to be considered a normal weight but would be happy losing 40lb. If I can really get into the 30 day shed program that will help knock out 15-10lbs right there.

My DH and I haven't been ttc nearly half as long. We are almost at the 2 year mark. We were married in June 2011 and I should have been fertile on our honeymoon so the dr is making me count that as month 1 so month 24 will be in May.

I don't ovulate with clomid and am doing bloodwork tomorrow to see if my last dose of fermara helped my ovulate. If not he is sending me to an RE to started injections.

How far along were you when you miscarried? I can't imagine having the possibility of miscarrying into the 7th month. What are the doing to treat Hashimoto? I am not very familiar with it.

Has your dr said what his plans are to help you concieve once you take off the weight?

Two years is still very hard.
Hashimotos is autoimmune thyroid disease so am on drugs to treat it for the rest of my life. The moment I get pregnant I have to dramatically increase my meds or its all over. That's possibly why we miscarried before. Didn't know we were pregnant til I miscarried. I will never forget that day.
They will either put me on something to force ov like clomid, or ivf, depends on how bad the PCOS is at that stage. They will decide when the time comes.
Clomid doesn't work for you? That's awful. I really really hope Fermara helps.
I will do anything that I can to help me get pregnant.
You are doing well then. The forty pound will be an awesome help.
The ttc thing is horrible isn't it.
I'm just wondering when I will actually ever get my af. It's so frustrating.

I guess I should state I want to lose at least 40 more lbs 60-87lbs altogether.

You are doing great with your weight loss especially with the thyroid issue. I have heard it makes it harder. Has it caused you to struggle alot with your weight thru the years? How are they treating your PCOS? I have heard that can also increase the chances of having a miscarraige. I can't imagine how hard it would be to miscarry.

I thought I miscarried this summer and it broke my heart. I bawled my eyes out. I was so scared. I never got a BFP but my cycle hadn't come and when I woke up I was bleeding heavy, I was passing massive clots and filling pads in less than 2 minutes. Even bleed threw the seat of the car on a 15 minute drive to the hospital. I threw up I had so much pain in my left side. (I never have a heavy period, heavy cramping or alot of clotting) Thankfully my mom and grandma were with me. They cleaned me up and rushed me to the hospital and they said I just had had a bad period. Mom and grandma both said they were sure it was a miscarriage (they had both miscarried when they were younger). I am scared I will get pregnant with IVF and then miscarry.

The ttc journey is a hard one. I had irregular periods when I was younger due to stress but the dr said everything was healthy. I used to be happy having 3-4 cycles a year. Now I am counting the days for it. They straighten up in 2010. Up until June they were 28 day cycles now they are 40-45 days. I hope you get yours again soon. I know what is want them. How long has it been since you had one?

Are they going to moniter you closely once you ovulate to make sure they up your dose quickly?

I have read alot abt clomid. I read that it helps abt 80% ovulate and then usually helps those who do not on clomid.

I'm sure you will lose it. You've done so well so far.
Yeah I struggle a lot losing weight fom the thyroid and the PCOS.
Unfortunately my endocrinologist says he can't help my PCOS as the main things to help it are the Contraceptive Pill, which I can't have any type of due to severe side effect, my doctor will allow to take any type. Not worth it.
The other way is metformin, which also doesn't agree with me.
So no go drug wise.
The only other thing is weight loss, which I am doing.

I can relate to the miscarriage thing. That's what happened to me, but I refused to take a test while I was going thru it and after my doctor agreed that it sounded like it was. I was having regular agonizing contractions. It oesnt matter If you knew or not before, you know your body and it sounds like your family understands. It's heartbreaking isn't it?

It's been about 15 months since my last period, still nothing. My longest cycle was eighteen months, I hope the weight loss helps.
Yeah, when I see a fertility specialist, I have to tell them about my thyroid, so that they can ind out ASAP and increase my drugs.

Tell your ivf people your fears and they will devise you on how best to protect yourself. I think I have to believe, that somehow, someway, people like us, who o desperately want a Baby, will get one, one day.
I would be happy to adopt but in Australia it's really hard. The govt try to get people to foster out while thy decide. They don't make it easy for anyone.

You cycles aren't too bad these days are they? Did you have ny good or bad things with clomid or femara?

How is your tooth going?

Had 6 teeth worked on yesterday so my mouth is screaming at me. I can't believe how many cavities I had. They were all pretty early when they were caught but it makes me wonder if the fertility drugs did it. I have heard they can be rough on your teeth.

I am on metformin and didn't do to well with it till a friend told me to take it an hour after I eat. That made a big difference. If I take it less than 40 minutes after eating I get sick.

I have heard you are less likely to miscarry with certain ferlility drugs then others.

My periods are back to as light as ever which really makes me wonder abt June. I keep thinking the hospital missed something. I think they thought I was lying abt the amt of blood I had lost since I had cleaned up before going in and I was at the very tale end of the "event" when I went in. They said there is no way it could have been a miscarraige but to me it is the only thing that makes sense. The whole cramping, clotting and extreme bleeding only lasted abt an 1hr. I kept telling my mom I felt bad and was passing big clots and she thought that my cycles were just getting normal so she blew it off till I called her into the bathroom. She saw everything and called her mom in and they both said miscarraige. Her and my dad ran me to the ER and I bled throw the entire seat cushion. I went into shock when I got home due to the blood loss. My mother in law is a nurse and was extremely mad with the hospital.

Nothing good or bad with clomid or femara. I think they femara made me gain a few lbs. I added a few since starting it. I stepped on the scale this morning and had also added 2lbs. I guess it is that time of the month for bloating. I will have 2-6 days a month where my weight will jump 2-5lbs overnight and then a few days later is back to normal. With the 40-45 day cycles I sometimes experiences two times.

I can't believe how hard it can be to adopt. I was freaking out here bc our adoption laws are strict. A friend told me that each state had their own adoption laws and I can adopt from another state and get to follow their rules which will let us adopt easier. They prefer people foster here 1st as well. I don't think they would let us foster bc my husband is a police officer and it would be a conflict for the kids. Usually when you foster here you get local kids. My DH would be arresting their parents then bringing their kids home. So that could be a problem for the kids.

Tooth pain is awful, I hate the dentist but my teeth keep breaking, as I have wat is known as soft teeth, no fluoride in the water here I grew up.
Hopefully the work thy did will help you though.

hmmm, maybe I should try again on the metformin.

I would hazard our mum nd mother in law my be right. You know your body, if you think it was a miscarriage, it possibly was. How can they judge on what is the tail nd of. Situation I ont know.
It pounds very much like mine. The pain was indescribable. If it was, I'm so very orry for the loss.

Adoption sucks. In western Australia, where I live, there re only two or three adoptions a year and hundreds of purples on the waiting list. I couldn't mentally handle that.

Yeah, my weight goes up when I g my period, it just doesn't arrive all tht often, but sometimes the hormones I'll hit, even if the actual period doesn't.

I'm Just starting weights today, did some upper arm ork nd m guessing I will feel it tomorrow. I'm starting to want to e exercise, it's WEIRD. lol.

Well, it's 1.25 am an I'm working first thing in the morning so I'll sign off now. ChAt tomorrow.
