Finally... IVF!!!

Post subject: Finally... IVF!!! We are almost at two years of ttc and had our 1st consultation today. I was officially diagnosed with PCOS and my prescription of Metformin was upped. The RE said he can at least tell that I have a moderate case even though he suspects that I could have a severe case. My right ovary was shadowed so he couldn't see it well but my left ovary was definatly polycistic. The other two times I had ultrasounds the drs said the view was cloudy and they couldn't clearly diagnose PCOS.
RE said with it being so bad I had to options he would recommend. Trigger injections or IVF. He said IVF would be more cost effective in the long run and that it had less risks. So he started me on meds to force my cycle and as soon as it shows we will start meds and move into IVF!! I am so excited. I feel like I have waited a whole lifetime to get here!! Post subject: i have also now been put forward for IVF december but due to [*CENSORED*] ups within the welsh assebley there is only one hospital in wales offering IVF and that is almost three hours drive from my house and currently has a 18 month waiting list. by which time i will be too old to get IVF on the NHS. well [*CENSORED*].

I am so sorry that they can't do it any faster. Maybe something will change or a new office will open. I can't imagine a 18 month waiting list. Best of luck! I hope everything gets better and you get your baby. Posted: Wed Feb 27, 2013 7:51 pm

NICE guidelines have apparently changed now raising age to 42. Plus they tend to quote maximum waiting times. Best of luck. x _________________

Kas you'd think they'd push you up the list if you're older wouldn't you  I know that might not seem fair but if there are limited resources and people in their 20's then they have more time
As Kaz said though the NICE guidelines have just changed so if they refuse you treatment I'd appeal citing the NICE , the guidelines are just that ,they aren't compulsary they're just considered good practise, they already suggest 3 cycles for everyone eligible and thats ignored in some areas  but if you threaten to kick up a fuss then they could well back down Hopefully the waiting list won't turn out to be so long, a gynae doc told me the waiting lists often shrink because some of the couples will get BFP's while waiting , he seemed to think for the unexplained couples just knowing the pressure was off seemed to help xx Posted: Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:10 pm
Post subject: thanks DL05 we are currently having a few months off trying, just to give me a rest. as it have been 3 years trying and the last 2 have been with me taking all sorts of meds after OV. the first months of the med's i had a 17 day LP when down to 13 this month. hopefully it will be back to my normal 11 days next month. Then i know my body is back to normal. After a few months at normal we will start again although med cupboard is looking empty.
