Post subject: 9oz can't be enough???
I had a feeling that Thomas has lost weight (yes I know all newborns do ), I stopped bf-ing and started expressing and topping up with formula as I had a feeling he wasn't eating enough. Anyway, he's now 5 days old and is only taing 9oz of milk in 24 hours, that can't possibly be enough can it, I tyhought the calculation was 2.5oz be 1lb of bodyweight.
I've looked at Alex's feeds (as we logged all his too) and his jumped up very quickly where as Tom's is just staying at 9oz, he is feeling every 2 to 3 hours just not a lot 15-25ml per feed and he can also go 4 hours or more, if I let him (but I don't anymore)
The mw was due to come today for the 5 days check but she has cancelled, should I just call her out anyway? He seems happy enough, still jaundiced and has a sticky eye otherwise seems ok.

you could try standing on the scales on your own then again with Thomas (its not hugely accurate though?).
Our Local health clinic has the scales left out so you can self weigh your baby.
If you're worried I would ring your HV, they may be able to reassure you over the phone.
I'm not sure on how much he should be having I'm afraid, but you could try feeding him more often as he may just have a very little tummy right now and need it oto be filled more often (even if he doesnt realise it himself!)

bf-ing councellor been out and seen us she was very helpful and said I was doing all the right things apart from maybe try the breast more rather than expressing, however it appears little Tom has tongue-tie so that could be causing his very frequent and little feeds.
