Post subject: First IVF appointment...
Hi ladies

We've been TTC for three years now and have just had our first IVF appointment through. Since January we have been having all the preliminary tests, including the HSG, SA and follicle tracking, and we've now got an appointment to see the Fertility Consultant at Salisbury Clinic on Tuesday. I am so nervous so was just wondering what we should expect? Some people I speak to say that they only had one appointment before they were sent away and told to call the clinic on the first day of their period! What questions should be asking? Even though I have read up on the whole process I am still really anxious about what happens next. I work as a nurse on a busy ward, so work haven't been very supportive which doesn't help. I therefore really want to make sure I gather all the information I need before approaching my boss to discuss the next step.

Thanks for listening

xxx

So sorry you didn't get a reply before you had your appointment. I don't get on here very much at the moment.
How did your appointment go in the end? Hopefully it's full steam ahead for you now Smile

xx

Hi teebshoping

It was quite an uneventful appointment to be honest. I'm not sure how it works where you live, but we were initially seen at our local hospital in the fertility clinic who did some of the initial tests, including follicle tracking, HSG, SA and blood work which pointed towards us needing IVF. Have you had these tests done yet? As they don't do IVF at our local hospital they then referred us to another hospital that does it.

At the IVF hospital they had all our test results in front of them from our trust. They therefore just asked us all the questions again to make sure we were eligible for NHS funded treatment. As we are, the consultant just answered our questions and told us a bit more about the process and how they do it. The nurse then saw us and checked we understood everything and then gave us both blood forms to have some blood taken. The nurse then told us to call on the first day of my period in August and they'll see us again for a longer appointment where they go through all the paperwork and the process in more detail. I therefore don't have lots of information yet. We'll know more in August. It sounds like everyone reacts differently so until they start the process they are not really sure how it will go so cannot give us definite answers. Every trust might be different though.

I hope this helps.

Hello

Yes we have had everything done at our local hospital results are unexplained Rolling Eyes so the last app with our local hospital they just asked us both to have HIV hep a and some other bloods done they advised once they had all them the referral would be sent to manchester hosp where we would get the ivf done (as ours dont do it so we have to go 65 miles away)
I had a call about a month ago from my local hospital saying that they had everything and the results where being put together to go to manchester for referral and once they had it all they would contact me direct so at the minute I think we are just waiting for them to contact us?

I presume they will write to us to say they have it and we are on the list? I need to double check really as I am presuming we are going to st marys in manchester but they never said that they just said manchester, we are getting it on the NHS hopefully as we both dont have children so I think we get one go free as far as I know!!!

Thats only a month away for you I bet you are so excited/nervous/scared? xxx

Hi Ladies,

I'm on the waiting list for IVF to, we had one go last year which we funded ourselves but didnt work. We are now eligible for an NHS go as Ive managed to get my weight below 30 bmi. We have been referred from our local hospital in Chester to IVF hospital in Shrewsbury. We had our 1st appt in shrewsbury in April to be told we need to be retested i.e bloods, sperm count etc... and then was have a follow up at end of July. They did tell us that the waiting list is approx 12 mths long so we were devastated. All the waiting drives me insane but this is the only thing we can do.

Hope you all don't have long to wait xx

Hi teebs

Our journey sounds similar to you. We're unexplained as well. Our local hospital told us they'd done the referral and the next communication we got was Salisbury offering us an appointment so it is just a waiting game to start with. Don't be surprised if Manchester repeat your blood tests and your OH's SA. We had some bloods done in our local hospital and then Salisbury repeated them all as it was a different hospital.

At first I was really scared. All we want is to fall pregnant naturally and I felt like a failure. Now, though, I am really excited. This is our chance. I keep trying to think positively. By the end of the year I will be pregnant. I can't believe it.

ShellyPad79 - I can't believe your waiting list is 12 months....hopefully it will fly by though. It sounds like we've been lucky only having to wait a few months.

Fingers crossed for everyone.

I bet you get seen before that, like Nat said I bet the list goes down and down with people just getting their BFPS or changing their minds? I really wouldnt think it would be that long but I woulsd keep thinking it is and anything different is a HUGE bonus!

A massive FX that it works next time for you! xxx

Ar thats great thats what I thought would happen, did you just get a letter in the post?

I thought we may have to have them done again as it was a long time ago we had bloods and OH's SA (prob over a year at least)

I think I am having so many mixed emotions at the min I just dont know where I am with it all! Confused I am scared about IVF and really didnt want to go down that route (not for any reason apart from it being more natural) but the longer you go with no bfp the more you want to do anything that could give you that BFP!

I hope it all goes ok for you and your OH and that it works first time, keep me/us updated as I am not far behind you and would really like to learn what we have to go through xx
