Hi Jo Jo
it makes me feel very guilty when someone is going through such uncertainty like you are and I'm moaning cos me and my hubby have only been trying for 2 months. I also already have 2 children so am not in your position. I really wish you all the luck in the world and with any luck you might not end up needing help as a friend of mine had a appointment like you, then all of a sudden it happened! I will keep everything crossed for you. Good luck

Will let you know what happens but think the first thing is an ultrasound then they have to check the tubes etc...

Post subject: First Fertility Appointment
As promised an update on what happened at my first fertility appointment, which was this morning. Consultant went through my health, cycle, etc. He asked about smoking, alcohol, and general health etc along with how my cycle was, he also asked my hubby about his health. Neither of us smoke or drink so everything was normal there. He also said that as I already had a child and because of my age (39) if after tests everything came back normal then we would have to pay for anything further.
I have got to go back for blood tests on day 21 and day 3 of my cycle and also wait for an appointment for an x-ray of my tubes and I have another appointment with the consultant in 3 months when all the tests are back. My hubby has also got his test in a couple of weeks. And that was it!!
Has anyone had any experience of their partners having the semen analysis test? Do you know whether I would be allowed to go and assist him (!!) when he does it?

Hello Jo and Sarah,
My hubby and I have an appointment with fertility consultant on 30th April.......so like you Jo I'm anxioux to know what they will say. We have been trying for 8 months and I have been having problems with spotting in between cycles so that is why I originally went to see the docs thinking it is causing probs with fertility. I had the blood work done before being referred and all was ok and we are awaiting my hubby's test results. By the way Sarah hubby had to produce this at home and then get to hospital within the hour with his sample...........so you will be able to help him with that!! Also I'm 33 and already have a son so will probably be told we have to pay as well. Did they say you will have to pay for more tests? I wondering if they will do an ultrasound next to look at ovaries etc. and see what I may be bleeding in between cycles.

It seems that different Trusts deal with things differently. I felt all what the consultant said this morning my GP could have done. I think he meant that after all the initial tests if we wanted to persue it further then thats when we would have to pay. I was wondering if there was any homepathic remedies that would help. My hubby has an appointment at the hospital for his test so I think I might ring and ask them whether I can go in with him.
I think in your case an ultrasound might be the next step or they might do a Laproscopy. Good Luck for next week and let me know how you get on.

just to let you my partner has his test, he had the choice of either staying at home but had to get to the clinic with 40mins max or going to the centre, if you choice to the centre there are seperate rooms for your oh to go and do his sample. i must stress though if you arrive after the 40 mins they can refuse the sample.
hope this helps, oh gets his results back within the week.
I also have a 7 year old daughter, im 27 and my partner is 29 so i quess we will all be in the same boat.
