I had my little man at 30 wks and he weighted 2lbs 11oz. I knew I was going to have a prem as I suffer from high BP before getting pregnant and was worse throughout the pregnancy. They wanted to deliver him at 28 wks but but I had a doc on my side who wanted to wait another few wks. I was given the steroid injections at 27 wks.
He was fairly ill but pulled out his breathing tube after 2 days as he wanted to breath on his own. I should have known then what trouble he was going to be. he is 5yrs years old and perfect (who else can say that only his mom)
I swore I would never put myself through that again but here I am, ttc # 2

I have only just found this website and it's great to see people who have been through the same things talking about them - I wish I had found you all earlier!
I went into labour with Elanna whilst on holiday at 26 weeks but thankfully was taken to an amazing hospital in north wales who managed to sort me out and keep her in a little bit longer. I was kept in for 10 days before they would let me travel back to Dorset. After a 10 hour drive back home, we were only back for a morning when I went into labour again (28 weeks) and after a 32 hour labour Elanna was born. She weighed 2lb 12 but was very healthy thanks to the steroid injection and care we received. She was in SCBU for 8 weeks before they would let her come home but is now nearly caught up at 21 months. She has been an absolute dream baby (most of the time!!) but very determined - I guess that comes from these little babies having to put up such a fight from day one.

hi iam 29 weeks and my baby has gastrochisis, iam having him at the liverpool womens ans then he will be taken to alder hey. iam to meet the surgeons next week and discuss my delievery options. Can anyone give me on any advice iam really worried and the hospital arent telling us much.
Well I had Isabelle when I was 37 weeks pregnant, she was born weighing e4lb 14oz. I had to be induced as she had a condition called Gastroschisis which meant her bowels and stomach was growin on the outside of her tummy. She had her op at Alder Hey hospital and had to be fed though an intravenus drip for the first week or so then they slowly started weaning her onto milk, she could only have 2ml at the start and then they upped it every day by 5ml til she was on a full feed of 65ml, it was so hard as nobody could give us a time scale of how long she was going to be in hospital for as we had to go at her speed and wait for her bowels to start working properly (I have never been so happy to see her do a big poo lol) We were quite lucky as by the time she was 3 weeks she was on a full feed and opening her bowels on her own so we were allowed to bring her home.
