Post subject: Re: I've been trying for almost a year
Hi, I've been trying to get pregnant for almost a year and I haven't been successful. We have sex every other day between days 10 and 16. My period arrives between days 28-31. Sometimes I just have spotting and then a week later my 'proper' period starts.
I was on the conceptive pill for 10 years, I am 5 ft 5 and weigh almost 11 stone. Could one of these be a problem?
I don't smoke or drink much and neither does my husband.
I'd love to get pregnant but it doesn't seem to be happending. Does anybody have any anwers or has anybody else been trying for a year to get pregnant?
I'm not an expert and there maybe (or not) other factors to take into consideration while you have been unable to conceive but I just calculated your BMI and you are slightly (& it is very very slightly) over your healthy range. So while losing some weight might be good for you, I doubt whether this is the reason - again I'm not an expert.
I know you say that 'the sticks' say you're ovulating around day 15 and that you're bd'ing between day 10-16 but I would try and widen that to 10-20. While this is just her own opinion, my acupuncturist says that a females 'ovulation window' is wider than people think. Worth a try and it can't hurt.
Oh and I was on the pill for nearly 15 years and went off it a year ago. I fell pregnant 7 wks ago (lost it unfortunately), but knowing that I can conceive shows there is hope for us who have been on the pill for many many years.

It took me a long time to concieve an i was actually on waiting list for ivf but was told i need to lose a stone as my bmi was 32 so i was very dissheartened. I invested in a treadmill and decided to try and lose weight but then i started feel unwell and after a few weeks of teirdness, nausea and period like cramps i did a test and was gobsmacked it was positive...after 7 yrs of trying....so my advice would be never give up hope and get your self to the docs and ask him to refer you....( oh by the way i too have pcos)
But dreams can come true...mine did!! Although it is still early days for me....xx

Yes pcos does affect fertility but many women have no trouble getting pregnant...for example Victoria Beckham who is a pcos sufferer...It all depends on your weight so they say but hey look at me i have gained weight over the last year and just found out that i am pregnant...It is all to do with the ovary once they produce the egg it should come away ready for a period or fertilization but instead the egg stays on the ovary in a fluid filled sac its very complicated but thats the easiest way to describe it... hope that has helped....julesx

I no you.ve had loads of replys with some really good advice but i just wanted to say
go and see your doctor and he can refer you to your fertility clinic,
at least they can do test on you and your partner then you will no what the problem is and concentrate on that.
Me and my hubby have been trying for 5 years with no luck, went to hospital after 2 years of trying and it turns out my tubes are damaged.
Had 10 months on chlomid still nothing, so we have just been referd to start ivf so fingers crossed.
But at least if you go to docs and the do test you will no why nothing is happening, trust me it puts your mind at rest.
Good luck to all of us hun xxxxxx

Thanks for the advise. I went to see my Doctor today and bascially he said he can't do anything until we've been trying for 3 years. I thought that was a very long time to find out.
But he said when I next have my af to go in for a blood test for a hormone test or something like that.
PS I usually do orgasm during sex, but it's not helped us get pregnant. I'll have to keep on having more if it does help
