Post subject: Just wondering Hello,
This is my first pregnancy and i was wondering if anybody could give me hint or tips to make the birth some what less painful. I am a tiny women only 5 feet tall and VERY petite so i don't expect a 10lb baby (hopefully). A lady i no recommended swimming as it prepares the muscles for the birth is there any other exercises you girls could recommend to me. Many thanks Kim xxxxx Posted: Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:37 am
Post subject: Hi Kim,
Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to the forums. If you're worried about labour pain you should talk about your options with your midwife. Swimming, yoga and gentle walking will all help to strengthen your body in preparation for the birth (the yogic breathing will help relax you during labour too). Practicing pelvic floor exercises is also a good idea and some say they speed up the second stage of labour. Good luck and don't stress about the birth too much - instead focus on having a gorgeous baby at the end of it. Han x Posted: Thu Oct 11, 2007 12:39 pm
Post subject: Hi Kim
my midwife recommended walking (which is all fine until a Braxton Hicks comes along and I have to sit down!!) and pelvic floor exercises. Both seem to help so far - although 7 months at the moment, so who knows!! Another useful tip she gave me is that at around this time, baby is starting to settle into the position he will be in for the birth, and sitting leaning backwards, lying on your back, and sinking into big comfy sofas all encourage baby to lie 'back to back' with his spine turned out to your spine, instead of facing your back, with his spine pressed into the front of your belly. If you go into labour with baby positioned like this, it not a problem like Breech birth or anything, but it means its much harder for baby to sink his chin to his chest to help with the push down the birth canal. In effect, this means the likelihood of a much longer and more painful labour. So, she advised that I should be extremely careful about my positioning. I work in an office, so rather than sitting back on my chair all day I sit forwards close to the edge, with my belly pushed right forwards. Hopefully this will help!! How far along are you? Anna
