Post subject: IUI or IVF?? Please help
Hi Ladies,

i have just read the really long thread on IVF. its blown my mind with all the injections, stimms, egg retrieval etc etc.

i go back to the fertility clinic on july 8th. she said i will have IUI or IVF next. we have unexplained infertility so i ov ok and oh sperm count normal. ive just had 3 cycles of clomid and dont feel hopefull my last cycle has worked.

if i get the option which one should i go for, IUI or IVF??!! which one would give us a better chance of conception? im not scared of what i have to go through so that wouldnt depend on which one i choose, just the best option......

thanks ladies and my thoughts are with you all going through treatment

xx

Hi Bikini,
IUI has a much lower success rate per cycle compared to ivf but is much cheeper so you can do several attempts for the same cost as 1 ivf cycle. IUI is less intrusive, less drugs etc. I guess your clinic will decide based on your history which is more suitable.

I don't know if you have ever watched John and Kate +8 on telly, they twins and also have sextuplets concieved by the first attempt at iui !!

Good luck hun, come and join us in the ivf/icsi thread Very Happy

thanks for you reply lilia,

wow 6!! that gives hope. i was feeling very low yesterday. so disappointed the clomid hasnt worked. im already having discoloured cm so i know af is on her way. i always get it for days before af shows.

i think what im going to do is write all my questions as i always come out from the specialist and can think of a million questions i forgot to ask.

im going to ask bluntly what the NHS offers. how many IUI treatments they offer. i know where i am i will get 1 free go on the NHS. i dont want to say ill go straight to IVF and then no more chances so ill see if i can go IUI then IVF.

god i feel so inadequate.

ill keep an eye on the ivf thread until i join you.

best of luck xx

Hi Bikini,

Have a look at this link, on their site you can see a map showing you exactly how much your pct will fund, it's a bit of a postcode lottery! We have had to pay privately for everything but if i lived in my sisters address in walthamstow i would get 3 free cycles!

Once you know exactly what funding you will be entitled to it may make your decision easier. Very Happy

Good luck

Lillia,

thank you so much for that information!!! i live just outside of walthamstow in essex and when i started out with my fertility appointments i was told we only had 1 shot on the NHS. now in the information you have sent me, it says 2 but then when i read further it says 3!!!!!?? very confusing. i will find out when i go for my next appointment on the 8th July. im going straight to IVF if thats the case!! i really do hope though they dont say because my first consultation was before the revised amount that i will still only have 1 shot. not that im ungreatful AT ALL as you and many many others dont get any IVF on the NHS, which is disgusting. postcode lottery, what a load of b*l***ks.

i take it youre going through IVF at the moment as i have seen youre on the long thread. best of luck to you!

thanks again

xxx
