Post subject: Older Mothers
Confused Ive just found out I am pregnant again after losing a baby in May 2007 .I had started to bleed then and went for a scan. The nurse at the hospital became quite negative when I told her I was 37 and said that I had a greater chance of miscarrying because my eggs were older and not as healthy, unfortunately she was right and I lost the baby. I can't stop thinking about what she said and have convinced myself it will happen again this time round. Anybody had a similar experience as an older mother???

Hi
I'm new on here. My advice is DON'T listen to them. After 4 failed IUI and 2 failed IVF the specialist told my partner and I to give up trying as because of my age - 43 - he said I had no chance of ever becoming pregnant because my eggs were no good!! In March this year I fell pregnant naturally, my baby is due on 4 January and despite me being sick from 11 weeks onward and developing carpal tunnel and SPD, everything is progressing well with the babyand we can't wait Very Happy
At least you know you can get pregnant so keep at it girl - fingers crossed for you x

agree with Shandy - don't let it worry you! I'm 34 (turn 35 in Feb) and my first baby is due in 3 weeks. We tried to conceive for well over a year, and the doctor started to talk about age as a factor etc etc. It's all nonsense - if its meant to be its meant to be! Enjoy your pregnancy, but do be aware of your limits. I find I need lots and lots of sleep, and some of the physical activities 18 year olds can do when pregnant is definitely beyond me!

Just take it easy and enjoy. Hope it all goes OK Very Happy

My sister was over 40 when she miscarried her first pregnancy, then fell pregnant a few months later to have a healthy baby boy Very Happy
So don't get down about things, stay positive and know that doctors are not always right.

My mum had me and my 2 brothers in her 30's....and then had my youngest sister at the age of 42! My mum tells me they had concerns about the pregnancy, but it all went smoothly and now my sister is a beautiful 14 year old who keeps my mum very busy! With me and my brothers all being in our twenties i really think it has kept my parents younger having a younger child/teenager in the house. Good luck! xx

Very Happy
Just to let everybody know I had my dating scan yesterday and saw baby for the first time, Im eleven weeks so not quite over the danger period but it was so reassuring to see the little heartbeat. Thanks for all your kind replies, I will still worry until baby is born but at least I know I have friends out there to talk to if I need to.
Happy New Year All Very Happy
