I've always been told you start having them after you become sexually active, if not sexually active you have them at 18+

its normally called 'well woman' clinic. Mine is part of docs, but where I used to live was a separate clinic that came to our area monthly.

The nurse at my doctors sugery does mine, so I just ring the doctors up, but obviously you cant do that because yours won't do it.
Do the family planning clinic do it, they do everything else like that?

my friend had a result of inconclusive 2yrs ago and never went bk....... she has been is hospital recently as she has been bleeding continuously and they have found a lump in her womb!!
If she'd gone bk earlier about the results of her smear, they may have found it earlier!!

Hi, I had my smear about 2months ago, when my lil girl was about 7months. I told the nurse when I was having a smear that I would much prefer to give birth again!!! lol

I had my first smear at 19/20, luckily I did, as the next smear I had the cells were abnormal. I needed a loop cone biopsy to remove the abnormal cells!! If I had to wait untill I was 25 I doubt it I would be here now!!!

I think anyone who is sexually active or having problems with periods needs to have a smear. If a GP refuses one before 25 I would demand to have one done, as at the end of the day it could save your life! And remember sometimes you have no signs or symptoms

At the end of the day the NHS could save money by prevention, rather than letting something go out of control!

In Wales as far as I know you've gotta be 20!
Smears do suck especially if you've got one of those annoying chatty nurses doing it, I went for mine and the nurse got me all opened up etc and then remarked "It's a bit wet and dreary isn't it" To which I went "excuse me" then she said "oh sorry I was talking about the weather" I resumed couting the ceiling tiles and died a little inside!

I dont so much have problems with periods, but since having my son 9months ago, i have had thrush about 10times! Ive seen the doctor and asked her if it could keep re occuring as a sign of there being something wrong, but she just said no its very common and nothing else wrong!!
Id really like to have a smear done but if my doctors wont do it till im 25, i dont no where else i can go?!
