Hey! I was thinking if starting a post as it would be good to have support from each other and give advice etc. I had Oliver 5 days late on 19th April after a 23 hour labour which was pretty traumatic and more painful than I ever thought possible!

I love the name Niamh and it would be great to keep in touch with all the April mummies! Maybe we could start a facebook page? X

Hey ladies gr8 idea altho this is only the second time ive managed to get on here since my baby was born. Alfie George was born on 20/04/10 at 2:06am weighing 7lb 15oz 20 inches long.

Alfie is not sleeping at the minute - day or night and its starting to get me down. Im b/f and im worrying im not satisfying him as i expressed 3oz last night and he guzzled it and he fell straight to sleep no problem. Im reall thinking about switching to formula but feel like a failure Sad

You sound just like me! I can only come on here when I'm feeding! Oliver doesn't sleep during the day unless I take him in his pram and even then he wakes as soon as we get home. As for nigh time, we found that swaddling really helps although I know some people don't like it.

I am bf too and I'm also worrying he isn't getting enough I suppose it's normal to worry but I am going to wait to see how much he weighs tomorrow before adding in a bottle. Everyone says it will get better but it's pretty hard to see that when you're sleep deprived X

hey april mummies isnt it good to be on this forum now and not the pregnancy one!
my little girl polly rose was born on 11th april and weighed 7lb 7oz. i am bf her and she weighed 7lb 14 when she was 10 days. i am loving being a mummy again although not looking forward to my husband going back to work next week.
i have to say that this little one is so far the most contented of all the babies i have had- although until last night she was only settling at night to sleep on my stomach rather than in her crib. last night she did actually go ino her crib at 10.30 and slept til 2.45- i was awake before she was and kept checking her cos i couldnt believe she slept for so long.

anyway congratulations to everyone and sorry about the lack of capitals- it is the one handed typing while baby is in the other arm that is to blame!

hi ladies

my little girl amelia was born 12th april, 10.05am, weighing 7lb 11oz. she is doing really well and only wakes once during the night. Hopefully it lasts ad hopefully those whose babies arent sleeping that well soon settle into a routine (i know how it feels, my son never slept when he was a baby, he was always crying)

Hi april mummies.

My baby was born on 10th April, which was 2 weeks early. Oliver weighed 6lb 7oz so I had to send out for some tiny baby clothes quick. It was a really quick labour and only took 3 hours! I've had some issues with breast feeding and after Oliver going down to 5lb 12 I had to swap him onto formula to get his weight back up. We're much happier using bottles and Oliver cries a lot less now he's getting full. He's still feeding every 2 hours but I know how much he's getting which helps. He's now back to 6lb 6, so close to his birth weight after three weeks.

I'm really hoping he'll start sleeping longer through the night soon though as I'm really tired!!!

I'm so glad to still be part of the April mummies, I was worried there for a minute that she was ever going to come.

Day 4 for us today, BF going well and my supply has been built up by my power sucker, so feeling quite firm today..

Nights are fine, feeding anywhere between 2 and 3 hours aprox, and today we managed a couple of daytime naps during the day on her own in her moses basket rather than in our arms, completely our fault we have either had visitors wanting cuddles or we just cant take our eyes off her long enough to put her down.

ok I'm suffering from after pains which are worse at night and my pelvis is still sore so hoping that will pass once the hormones settle, have piles too but i'm not surprised she was 10lb 1oz. nipples sore but wouldnt be so bad if I started with the nipple cream earlier. No complaints day 4 and she has been wonderful really..

Alfie is now on bottles - i couldnt keep up with his need on the breast. He now takes formula every 3 hours. Im having trouble getting him to settle on a night time at the minute. He just doesnt like to go to sleep. Last night he got his last bottle at 10.30 and then we took him upstairs and he twisted and cried until his next feed at half 1 when he finally passed out but only after i rocked him for half an hour. He doesnt like to fall asleep on his own.

Im not sure how to settle him tbh. I feed, burp, rock etc and still no luk. Any ideas?

Glad to see more April mummies joining this thread. Hope everyone is ok and babys are well.
My little one is just over 4 weeks and had her weighed today and she is 10lb!! that's all that breast milk - little guzzler.
She is getting better at sleeping at night but last night only slept 3hrs so she is fast asleep now so prob the same thing tonight!!
Getting a bit worried by the amount of people who's baby is in a routine and sleeping thru and they are younger than mine, feel a bit of a failure Crying or Very sad . I just feed her on demand, wind her then hope that she sleeps!!

I find swaddling is great for settling baby, and as far as feeding through the night try starting your day at 7am and make sure that you feed your baby with a gap of no longer than 3 hours, babies will make up their feeds during the night if they are still hungry, another tip is to not let them sleep longer than two hours during the day at any one time, i dont mean go in guns blazing but by just unswaddling them and opening their curtains should be enough to encourage them to stir.

another tip if you are finding bubs is falling asleep during feeds during the day and you would like them to feed better, is a bum change halfway through, normally enough to get my little one to complete a feed properly.

Good luck its not an exact science and dont ever feel like you are a failure every, pregnancy, labour and baby is different..just try and enjoy they wont stay like this for long..

xx

Hi Ladies, Hope everyone is well.

I'm doing ok and Niamh is thriving up to 7lb at 12 days, I'm still bf at the moment, she is having more problems than I am with this, I think because she was a small baby she is finding it difficult to take a full feed so at the moment one feed is taking about an hour, it's quite tireing for me especially at night and I've fallen asleep with her at the breast a lot!

I'm coping at the moment but I'm dreading Si going back to work, he has taken care of Oscar every day and I've been concentrating on Niamh but I don't know if I'm going to be able to carry on bf when he's back at work and I'm having to look after both of them full time, I just don't think I'll be able to cope with hour long feeds and a crazy todler making hell because he knows his mummy is unable to move lol!!

If it doesnt work I'm thinking of expressing and bottle feeding, I would feel so guilty if I couldn't give Niamh the same start I gave Oscar, I fed him for 5 months.

Hope everyone's well xx

Post subject: name change
Hi April mummies,

Hope you are all ok, I have changed my name again from MrsSquidgy to Katies mummy, would like to say that its because I'm not squidgy anymore but thats really not the case. Anyway will worry about getting a figure of some description back at a later date, my lil girl is my main priority right now and she's doing really well, we have one feed in the night, usually anywhere between 2-5am, and then breakfast is anywhere between 7 -8am. She has already gained back her weight that she lost after birth, so now we weigh 10lb 2oz.

After pains have gone and my pelvis is loads better, just the nipples to sort now but with a power sucker like she is i'm not surprised they are tender, and the engorgment is a killer at the mo, these things are all tempory so just bearing with it for now, its very reasuring to know she is thriving being BF, I was concerned with her being such a big baby.

Big hugs xx
