Post subject: Hard but rewarding hi all.
my oh and i were foster parents for 2 teenage boys when i was around 24/25. I look back now and wonder how i did that when i was so young myself!! One of the young lads had been through 83 foster families before coming to us. He had ADHD and ODD, both very challenging behaviour problems. The other boy the youngest of the 2, was a cronic thief and a bed wetter. He and I were up 2-3 times a night changing his bed. We only had him for a few months before he had to be put into more specialised care. The oldest was with us for almost 2yr and then he turned 18yr so was legally an adult and out of the childcare system. We had a great time with him. more good times than bad. He was our compare at our wedding when he was just 16yr and he felt very important doing that and also did a great job. He loved to have jobs to do if he thought he was really helping. Post subject: Aww its a shame he didn`t keep in touch but maybe one day you`ll get a call out of the blue
It does sound very rewarding fostering, we`ve thought about it in the past but were unsure whether it might be unfair on our own kids because of the problems they sometimes bring with them, now I`m pregnant again I`ll be at least 51 before he/she leaves home  so not sure if it will ever happen but I take my hat off to those that are currently doing it or have done in the past  _________________  Posted: Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:23 am
Post subject: Aww it's a shame you didn't keep in touch, I know fostering can be hard as my parents went to do it and not sure what happened in the end but they didn't go through with it all,
It takes lovely people to do something like that, My old neighbour at my mums did it he and his ex wife fostered a girl and she had problems and a boy but the boy had a very big crush on me and we used to hang around together and he was ok until the foster dad cheated on his foster mum and he went mad not sure what happened to him, They also fostered 2 boys and i can never forget i was outside with my mum and they were watching what i was doing and they kept asking if i was single and Their foster dad was like no shes not. Post subject: hey hun, im 18, and my parents have been fostering for nearly 18 years, since they adopted me, we have had over 300 children in our home, i have had many ups and downs with many of the young people they had in care, they become part of the family, most of themhave kept in touch and we bump into them every now and again but its rewarding to know how you have changed those childs lives for the better xxxx
